The training facility of the Katanga Boxing and Taekwon-Do Club serves as a space where those interested can learn self-defense. Women, in particular, are active in the club, aiming to acquire self-defense skills to resist the violence and threats they often face in the slum. Given their vulnerability, self-defense can empower women and potentially save them from threats. Katanga Slum in Kampala, Uganda, faces significant challenges related to crime and violence. As one of the largest slums in the city, Katanga is characterized by overcrowded living conditions, extreme poverty, and limited access to basic resources and services. These conditions contribute to an environment where crime and violence can thrive. Residents often face the daily struggles of securing their homes and possessions, and instances of theft and other forms of crime are unfortunately common. The lack of proper infrastructure and law enforcement presence in the slum exacerbates the challenges related to crime. Additionally, the high population density and limited economic opportunities contribute to a sense of desperation among some residents, leading to an increased risk of criminal activities. Efforts to address the issues of crime and violence in Katanga may require a comprehensive approach that includes improvements in living conditions, increased access to education and economic opportunities, and enhanced law enforcement measures. Community-based initiatives, support from non-governmental organizations, and government intervention can play crucial roles in addressing these challenges and improving the overall well-being of the residents in Katanga Slum. Here is the training facility of the Katanga Boxing and Taekwon-Do Club where those interested can come and learn self-defense. Women are particularly active in the club. They want to learn self-defense to resist the violence and threats they often face in the slum. Women are particularly vulnerable to violence and abuse in the slums. Being able to defend yourself can save them from a threat.
