1. Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?

I am Katrine Moite, a native of Ukraine who now finds herself ensconced within the dynamic embrace of New York City. My journey into the realm of photography was, I confess, not initially shrouded in the romanticism one might envision. However, as the chapters of my life unfolded on American soil, an unexpected and fervent affection for the craft emerged, akin to the blooming of a hidden rose. The vibrancy of this city seemed to seep into my veins, coaxing my latent passion for photography into full bloom. What began as a casual dalliance soon evolved into a profound and unwavering love affair. The reverence I hold for photography is deeply entrenched in its ability to freeze time and encapsulate fleeting instants—those pearls of existence that might otherwise slip through our fingers into the abyss of forgotten memories. It is an art form that grants permanence to transient interactions, preserving the confluence of lives in a tableau that time could never replicate. Our journey through life, a series of interconnected epochs, is etched into the fabric of the images I capture—a tapestry of emotions, stories, and echoes of eras past.I find myself in the privileged position of bestowing happiness upon others, offering them the timeless treasure of cherished memories. The role I assume as a custodian of these moments is one I hold dear. It is a profound honor to stand at the juncture of past and present, weaving narratives of lives lived and experiences cherished.Through photography, I have found my purpose—a conduit for the preservation of the ethereal and the eternal. And in this journey, I am not merely an observer; I am a storyteller, a sentimentalist, and a keeper of the flame that illuminates the corridors of our shared human experience.

2. Where did you study photography?

I am a product of two distinct academic pursuits in Ukraine. My journey led me through both a Law School and a School of Photography

3. Do you remember your first shot? What was it?

My first free photo session was a family photoshoot with my charming New York neighbor who graciously agreed to model for me, catalyzing the formation of my fledgling portfolio. Her generosity, alongside her delightful young daughter, sowed the seeds of my gratitude—an indebtedness I hold to this day.

However, a more defining chapter awaited, set against the iconic backdrop of DUMBO in Brooklyn. It marked my inaugural paid assignment—a love story photoshoot that was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. I arrived hours ahead to scout locations, choreograph poses, and prepare for the upcoming session. This shoot resonates deeply as a cornerstone in my professional journey, my point of origin.

In hindsight, these two milestones encapsulate the essence of my journey—a blend of unexpected beginnings and conscious strides, each a testament to the evolution that accompanies commitment and perseverance.

4. What equipment do you use?

Canon R5, 50 mm, 100 mm, 24-70 mm

5. What do you hope to achieve?

I have recently completed a documentary focusing on the experiences of Ukrainian women and children refugees in the United States. This project consumes my attention and dedication as I strive to provide a platform for their stories to be heard. My primary goal is to raise awareness and understanding about the challenges they face, shedding light on the ongoing conflict that continues to claim lives. Together, we can amplify their voices and contribute to a global conversation about the urgency of ending this conflict. We must talk about this until the evil is stopped.

6. What compliment inspired/touched you the most?

The most gratifying moments for me occur when clients express how comfortable they felt during our photoshoots. Additionally, hearing pregnant models say that I helped them feel beautiful, confident, and sexy during a vulnerable time is incredibly rewarding.

7. What inspires your unique storytelling?

At the heart of my distinctive storytelling lies the captivating interplay of two profound narratives: the art of freezing the best moments and the unique essence of womanhood as creators of life. Within the intimate embrace of studio maternity photography, I am entranced by the convergence of these narratives.

To freeze the most cherished moments in time is to capture the ephemeral: the tender caress, the radiant smile, the whisper of anticipation. These fragments become the legacy of emotion, encapsulating a singular chapter in the broader narrative of life. Amidst this delicate dance, there is a heightened poignancy when celebrating the journey of expectant mothers. The transformation of a woman into a vessel of creation, the embodiment of life's purest magic, unfurls with a grace that leaves an indelible imprint.

In essence, my unique storytelling marries the art of preservation with the symphony of womanhood. Each photograph becomes a visual sonnet, a romantic ode to the extraordinary moments that define the human experience, and an homage to the awe-inspiring strength and beauty intrinsic to women as creators of life.

13. What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?

The best piece of advice I ever embraced, drawn from the enduring wisdom of Winston Churchill's quote, "Never, never, never give up," has profoundly shaped my journey. This quote has been a steadfast source of inspiration for me. It encapsulates the essence of unwavering determination and resilience, urging me to confront challenges with a tenacious spirit. This timeless wisdom has guided me through the highs and lows, reminding me to persevere, innovate, and press forward, regardless of the obstacles that may arise.

14. What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?

To those aspiring to become photographers in today's dynamic landscape, I would offer the following advice: Embrace the journey with the same unyielding spirit captured in Churchill's words, "Never, never, never give up." Photography, like any creative pursuit, demands dedication, resilience, and a passion to learn and grow.

Above all, cultivate patience and resilience. Photography is a journey of continuous learning, evolution, and refinement. Through the challenges and triumphs, the key is to persevere with the unwavering determination to capture the world's beauty through your lens, and to echo Churchill's sentiment: "Never, never, never give up."

Consistency, framed by everyday diligence has served as my key to success. This principle, nurtured over time, has allowed me to meticulously craft my skills, curate a distinct style, and fashion a portfolio that resonates with viewers.

I'd emphasize the power of daily dedication. Engage in your practice relentlessly, regardless of the scale of your endeavors. Strive for a consistent presence, both in the quality of your work and in the frequency of your engagements. Success, as I've come to learn, stems from a harmony between innovation, discipline, and the constancy of effort.

16. How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?

Cultivating receptivity to new information and knowledge is a cornerstone of my approach. Drawing inspiration from timeless works in museums, I've developed a practice of continuous learning that keeps my creative wellspring replenished.
