The Admiral van Tromp tragically crashed onto the rocks at Saltwick Bay, Whitby in 1976. Sadly two men lost their lives and no-one really knows how it happened. Still visible at low tide, I always intended on capturing this with the sun setting behind both the vessel and the local nab. Using a wide-angle, I wanted the destroyed vessel to be heavily present in the foreground, with a shade of orange from the set sun behind, giving a cool appearance to the picture overall reflecting the fact that this coast is dangerous even when the sea appears calm.
