At 7 a.m. sharp on a cold and windy winter Sunday morning, the Greek Presidential Guard (Evzones) leave their barrack headquarters and travel by bus to the foot of the Acropolis. Together, they begin their ascent, moving as a single 'soma' or body, effortlessly across the marble ruins to the flagpole at the peak of the mountain. Awaiting their signal, the sound of church bells ringing in unison by priests all around Athens marks the raising of the Greek flag right at 8 a.m. In this image, you see the guards waiting for the Greek flag to be raised as the rain clouds hold back. The only sounds are the gusts of polar wind swirling and howling around the Parthenon. Then, from the heavens above, a rainbow appears to bless the Greek Presidential Guard soldiers. Such a moment has never been seen before, capturing the divine light shining on the guards.
