This photographic series offers an intimate and delicate glimpse into the everyday life of elderly grandmothers—busy in the kitchen preparing meals, adjusting the cuckoo clock left by their mothers, sharing quiet coffee moments with their partners… These seemingly ordinary scenes, often overlooked, are in fact filled with emotional depth, quiet resilience, and a deep sense of agency. In this work, I seek to move beyond the traditional framework of the female gaze and embrace a broader women’s vision—one rooted in lived experience, intergenerational memory, and cultural continuity. Here, the grandmother is not simply a domestic figure but a narrator, a caretaker, a strategist of daily life, and a bearer of heritage. By turning the lens toward women who are rarely centered in contemporary visual culture, this project challenges ageist and gendered stereotypes. It emphasizes that women’s vision is not singular; it is shaped by time, labor, and love, unfolding quietly in kitchens, across phone lines, and atop cluttered wooden tables. This is not a gaze that seeks to confront the male gaze head-on, but rather one that renders it irrelevant—a world built entirely on its own terms. It is tender yet resolute, grounded in the quiet strength of presence. Through these images, we ask: What does it mean to see? To be seen? What stories emerge when we document womanhood across time? And what new narratives arise when older women are no longer depicted as symbols, but take up visual space as subjects in their own right?
