Western Australia's many mines and tailing ponds make amazing unique abstract photos when captured from the sky. Used by the refineries to store waste after seperating the minerals from the rock, tailing ponds often feature unique colours and patterns. Shortly after concluding our 2025 Karijini photography tour, I spent some time by myself racing around south western Australia and beyond. I visited some of my favourite photography locations and discovered a few new ones along the way. It was intense but highly productive, I drove over 3,000kms in only 4 days! While in the goldfields region, I flew my newly acquired Mavic 4 Pro over many different mines and tailing ponds. Many of them were dry and didn't offer much for photography but eventually I found a couple that were looking stunning. This one was a standout! It reminds me of the beginning of time when God created light and darkness, then seperated them calling them day and night.
