The countless mines and tailing ponds of Western Australia can sometimes make amazing unique abstract photos when captured from above. Used by the refineries to store waste after seperating minerals from rock, tailing ponds often feature unique patterns and colours. Shortly after concluding our 2025 Karijini photography tour, I spent some time by myself racing around south western Australia and beyond. I visited some of my favourite photography locations and discovered a few new ones along the way. It was intense but highly productive, I drove over 3,000kms in only 4 days! On the last day of my trip, I flew my newly acquired Mavic 4 Pro over a nickel mine that i'd discovered a few years ago. It's not an easy one to access, so by the time I flew in, there was limited battery life left to find some compositions. I captured only 3 frames before returning. This was my favourite. It reminds me of the surface of an Opal.
