The Red Mansion is a fever dream—an operatic reawakening of Dream of the Red Chamber set ablaze in red. Drenched in theatrical intensity, the series transforms the studio into a phantom stage, where shadows whisper, flowers bleed, and the boundaries between life and performance collapse. Drawing from the rich visual language of Chinese opera, each image is a still from an untold drama. White-painted brows and crimson silks conjure spirits from another era—women who love too deeply, suffer too quietly, and vanish too soon. The red hue is not just a color, but a character: symbol of passion, loss, ritual, and rage. Guided by the proverb “Life is like a play, and a play is like life,” this work lives in the liminal—between illusion and truth, artifice and emotion. What is staged becomes real, and what is real slips into fantasy. In The Red Mansion, the curtain never truly rises, and yet we are already in the final act. What remains is not narrative, but sensation—a lingering ache behind the mask, a silent scream in scarlet.
