I remember photographing the New York Panorama from the Rockefeller Center on a rainy day. It rained irregularly, casting ever-changing reflections on the streets below. But I knew the greatest time would be when the rain had stopped and the mood was still strong. At this stage, the city illuminates itself in ways that most people do not see. Because the clouds have cleared, the light is at its peak. With my camera in hand, I searched for a view that was wider than the usual New York Panorama photos. I wanted to get an image of the city that included more than just the standard frames. The buildings were illuminated in a variety of colors for Pride Month, and their brightness shone out against the golden sky. The sky and city lights were both bright yellow. Times Square, in the distance, was alive with bustle. And if you look attentively, beyond the usual metropolitan features, you may see the Statue of Liberty as a tiny silhouette far away. A helicopter may also be seen hovering close, slightly to the right of the horizon.
