A male osprey brings a sea perch for his family to eat. The female remains on the nest from the beginning of incubating the eggs (usually 3-4), until the fall when she leaves until spring. The male fishes and provides for the family during this time, as well as defending the nest against predators. He will stay for one or two weeks after the female leaves and continue to feed the fledglings, bringing less and less food until they are completely on their own. Osprey mate for life.
