Photographed from a helicopter, Iceland Kaleidoscopes is a series of 10 images exploring the landscape from above. Seen from the air, Iceland reveals a different language. Braided rivers carve through black sand plains, glacial water shifts in tone from silvery grey to deep blue, and sediment fans out in intricate, ever-changing patterns. At low tide, these riverbeds become fully exposed, unveiling layers of texture and movement that are impossible to grasp from the ground. What appears chaotic at first settles into rhythm. Lines repeat and diverge, channels split and reconnect, and the land feels alive in its constant reshaping. Light plays a defining role, skimming across the surface to bring out subtle relief, contrast, and depth. Colour emerges in quiet ways. Soft earth tones meet cool glacial hues, with occasional bursts of mineral staining that add unexpected variation. Together, they create compositions that feel both painterly and precise, as if the landscape is composing itself. This series focuses on the natural artistry formed by water, time, and terrain. Each image offers a fragment of a much larger system, where scale becomes abstract and the familiar dissolves into pattern. From above, Iceland is both vast and intimate, a place where texture and design carry the story as much as the land itself.
