At dawn off the coast of Rausu in eastern Hokkaido, I approached the drifting sea ice by boat, where Steller’s sea eagles gathered in the first light of day. As the sun rose, the sky ignited with soft gradients of pink, gold, and violet, reflecting across the ocean and surrounding ice. Using a slow shutter speed of 1/3 second, I chose not to freeze the eagle in flight, but to dissolve it into motion and atmosphere. The sweeping blur transforms wings into rhythmic forms, echoing the flow of wind and sea. The distant island and horizon line remain as subtle anchors, grounding the composition within an otherwise fluid world. In this moment, the eagle becomes more than a subject—it becomes part of the landscape itself, carried by light, color, and motion. The image is an interpretation of place and time, where the boundaries between sky, sea, ice, and life gently disappear into a single, luminous impression.
