Two Ways of Being Home is a portrait of Sora and Mame, two cats who share the same home but reveal remarkably different presences within it. Sitting side by side, their bodies form an almost symmetrical pair. Yet the longer I look at them, the less alike they appear. Sora faces the camera with wide-eyed openness and curiosity, while Mame meets it with a narrower, more reserved gaze. Their posture is similar, their surroundings are shared, but their expressions make each of them unmistakably individual. I chose monochrome to simplify the photograph and allow those differences to emerge through the eyes, posture, texture, and small gestures rather than through color. For me, the photograph is about something familiar in any shared home: closeness does not erase individuality. Two lives can occupy the same rooms, follow the same routines, and belong equally to the same place while experiencing it in completely different ways. They are together, at home, and entirely themselves.
