Passing Through

A moment of movement crosses a place built to endure. The vehicle itself is absent from the photograph, leaving only a streak of red light, a temporary presence recorded before disappearing beyond the frame. Behind it, the old hotel and surrounding buildings remain still. They have watched generations arrive, stay, leave and continue onward. A hotel itself is a place defined by temporary occupation: people inhabit it briefly before becoming part of its history. "Passing Through" considers the contrast between permanence and transience. We move through places, through moments and ultimately through times. Most evidence of our presence disappears with us, but occasionally something remains, a memory, a mark, or simply a streak of light.
