Of the many things that I love, this series represents two of them - fashion and ballet. I like to invite dancer-models to photographic sessions and to showcase fashion clothing. I ask them to do this by adopting various semi-balletic-modelesque style poses in their en pointe shoes. For this series, I had the inspiration of wanting to do a shoot with a big and puffy bright pink outfit that had balletic vibes, but having a quirky feel of an actual fashion clothing that makes a statement, as opposed to straight stage ballet tutu attire. So this is a ruffled frilled bodysuit with two complimentary skirts voluminously layered together to literally create The Big Pink outfit. The dancer-model showcased the concept and the clothing in a variety of positions : en pointe, down on the floor and standing semi-pointe. The shoot was entirely styled and photographed by myself in my own studio space, using a dark background to showcase the bright pink colour and two flash heads. The only other person involved in the shoot was the wonderful dancer-model who performed beautifully. The main title of the series is called FASHIONABALLET as it's a linked portmanteau of the two elements of the shoot and also when it's said as a whole, it sounds like the word "fashionably". This FASHIONABALLET project is an ongoing concept which I photograph regularly in different themes. This series is with the subtitle The Big Pink.
