From high on the Côte de Jor, the Dordogne does not flow, it wanders. This photo was made at sunrise from one of the great natural belvederes of the Périgord, where the river reveals its full, unhurried character: a broad serpentine curve threading through patchwork fields, wooded banks, and scattered villages, slowly emerging from the darkness of night. Above, the sky awakens in layers: gold at the horizon giving way to rose, then to the soft violet of the retreating dawn. What strikes you from this height is the sense of deep, patient time. The meander was not made in a day, nor in a century. It is the river's own biography, written in the land. The wisps of morning mist rising from the water's surface, the ploughed earth still dark with autumn damp, the trees holding their last color, all of it speaks of a season, and a landscape, caught in the fragile first light of day. Red Meander is a portrait of a valley slowly waking.
