A colony of Northern Gannets gathers on a rocky outcrop while others circle through the open sky above it. Their scattered flight paths form a shifting constellation of wings, lines and intervals. Rather than presenting the birds as isolated wildlife subjects, Celestial Calligraphy considers their collective movement as a form of temporary writing: marks produced in space and erased almost as soon as they appear. The low position of the rock concentrates physical weight at the base of the image, while the large expanse of sky creates a contrasting field of openness. Individual birds vary in scale and orientation, suggesting different distances, speeds and trajectories. Some remain sharply legible; others become smaller signs within the broader pattern. The eye moves between the dense colony below and the dispersed aerial formation above. A restrained, green-toned monochrome removes the scene from conventional naturalistic colour. Rock, plumage and sky are brought into a shared tonal environment, allowing the birdsā silhouettes and wing positions to carry the composition. The resulting image moves between observation and abstraction. The title refers to an unwritten language created through flight. Each bird contributes a brief gesture, yet the overall pattern cannot be fixed or fully read. The work approaches the sky as a surface continually inscribed by living movement.
